David’s Path
Schoellkopf Health Center & Niagara Hospice Collaboration
Hospice Trained Care
Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center’s Schoellkopf Health Center and Niagara Hospice have collaborated to provide specialized services dedicated to meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of seriously ill individuals requiring 24-hour skilled nursing care.
Residents benefit from care that provides relief from pain and other symptoms, as well as the stress of a serious illness. Improving the quality of life for both residents and their families is our goal.
Hospice care at Schoellkopf Health Center brings many advantages to residents nearing the end of life. They are more comfortable as a result of the specialized services they receive from physicians, pharmacists, nurses, medical social workers and spiritual care providers along with massage therapists, allied therapists, volunteers and bereavement counselors.
Who was David?
David Winker worked in the dietary department at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for nearly 47 years. Before he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, David never missed a day of work, riding his bicycle to and from the Medical Center each and every day.
David devoted his entire life to working at Memorial and everybody knew him. After his passing while under the care of Niagara Hospice, it was decided to dedicate the hospice unit in Schoellkopf Health Center to David as a fitting tribute.
