Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Names Psychiatrist Dr. Balwant S. Nagra as its Associate Chief of Psychiatry

Niagara Falls, NY — Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center (NFMMC), an independent regional medical center serving the Greater Niagara region in northwestern New York, is pleased to announce that Balwant S. Nagra, MD, will lead its psychiatry team as its Psychiatrist and Associate Chief of Psychiatry, beginning August 1. Dr. Nagra brings extensive experience to the role, with a background in both child and adolescent psychiatry, and adult psychiatry.

Before joining NFMMC, Dr. Nagra served as an Assistant Professor at the University at Buffalo’s Jacob School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Additionally, Dr. Nagra’s other notable appointments include Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Erie County Medical Center since February 2008, and Medical Director of Northern Erie Clinical Services from February 2013 to November 2022.

Dr. Nagra completed his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Buffalo from 2005 to 2007. He also completed his residency in Psychiatry at Delaware Psychiatric Center, which is affiliated with Thomas Jefferson University and Temple University in Philadelphia, from 2002 to 2005. In addition to this, he holds an M.B.B.S. degree from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana, Punjab, India.

Throughout his career, Dr. Nagra has received numerous awards and honors for his dedication to psychiatry and outstanding contributions to medical education and community service. Notably, he was named “Doctor of the Year” at Erie County Medical Center in 2019, received the Award for Outstanding Contributions to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the University at Buffalo in 2017, and was honored with the “Bharat Gaurav Award” in New Delhi in January 2016. Furthermore, he has been included in “The Leading Physician of the World” directory and received multiple awards from the India Association of Buffalo for his services to the community.

Dr. Nagra’s dedication to providing excellent psychiatric care and his significant accomplishments in the field make him a valuable asset to our team at NFMMC. His leadership and expertise will improve our psychiatric services, ensuring Memorial maintains the highest quality of care for our patients.

Founded in 1895, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center (NFMMC) has a long tradition of serving the Niagara community. NFMMC’s hospital and primary stroke program are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, and its primary care network is accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. Memorial’s inpatient services include a cardiac/stroke unit, a medical–surgical unit, an ICU, a Labor and Delivery unit, and an Adult Inpatient Psychiatry unit, the only one of its kind in Niagara County. Memorial is also home to the Golisano Medical Oncology Center, which operates in collaboration with Roswell Park Comprehensive Care Center.
