David Green is the Head Golf Professional at Shelridge Country Club with years of experience as a PGA Professional, and needed emergency treatment for a wound and other serious conditions. He shares his story in a letter to Joseph Ruffolo, President & CEO of NFMMC.

Letter to the CEO

“I would like to commend you on the excellent medical treatment I have received from Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. I have been a patient in the Wound Center since last October, a hospital patient for a week in November, and I had foot surgery last week.

I have been a PGA Professional for over 25 years and I am currently the Head Golf Professional at Shelridge Country Club in Medina. At the end of the 2016 season my health was a disaster. I had sever open wounds on both legs and a foot ulcer that poked through the top of my foot. I was 407 pounds and went to the emergency room with heart and kidney failure. Needless to say my life was in big trouble and I was facing the loss of my career and maybe even the loss of my life.

Today I am happy and proud to say that I was declared “healed out” by the wound center. My cardiologist said he does not need to see me again for another year. My weight is currently 335 pounds with plans on getting to 260 this summer. My kidney function has stabilized at stage 3 which is not great, but I am told is manageable. I attribute the majority of my progress to the staff of the Wound Clinic and the rest of the employees of Memorial.

I have started back full time at Shelridge and I am as excited to get back to work as I was starting my first job out of gold college. I plan to work long hours, teach the game to many students, and play more than I have in the last 10 years combined. Basically, I feel my life has been saved by the many health care professionals under your direction.

I would especially like to thank Dr. Michael Mitchell, Dr. Will Rosena, Dr. Bajwa, Dr. John Blundell, Aaron (Wound Center director), Cassandra, Nicole, Gretchen, Sharon, Charlene, and Christine.

I realize I may need medical attention in the future and that I don’t have a guarantee of perfect health for the next 20 years. It is comforting o know that I can to NFMMC when the time comes. I wanted to share with you the changes I have made and the improvements in my life. Please take a moment to appreciate the real people that have benefited from the good work being done at your facility. What more noble professional can a person dedicate their life to than to heal others?”
