A native of Amherst, Dr. Schratz attended Canisius High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Williams College in Massachusetts, and went on to work at an Immunology Lab at Harvard Medical School before attending the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine for his medical degree. He completed his internship and residency at the University at Buffalo.

Dr. Schratz specializes in general  surgery.

He is also a former vice president of the Catholic Education Council at DeSales Catholic School and is a partner and longstanding board member of the Historic Palace Theatre in Lockport.
