Memorial employees earn lactation counselor certification

Tanyetta Carter, LMSW, CLC, and Carol Beaman, CLC, earned the Certified Lactation Counselor designation upon completing 40 hours of classroom training at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in Houston.

The comprehensive training was sponsored by the Healthy Children Project’s Center for Breastfeeding and included practical skills, theoretical foundations, and strategies and tips for the management of breastfeeding

Carter, the coordinator of Memorial’s Community Health Worker Program, and Beaman, the program’s senior health worker, work with pregnant and postpartum mothers to encourage the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding. They also counsel new mothers to prevent breastfeeding problems.
