Home > News Room > Memorial, NU Athletics team up to host Feb. 19 Breast Cancer Awareness even Memorial, NU Athletics team up to host Feb. 19 Breast Cancer Awareness eventAs part of the "Time Out for Women's Health" series presented by Independent Health, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Niagara Athletics, the Purple Eagles will present Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Sunday, Feb. 19 before and during the women's basketball game against St. Peter's."While October is commonly recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an emphasis on awareness and preventative measures should be a year-round process," said NU Associate Athletic Director Barbara Green. "Niagara has made Breast Cancer Awareness Day a regular part of its athletic calendar for several years and the addition of Independent Health and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center as partners in our campaign will strengthen our message in 2006." The day will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Gallagher Center ("Under the Taps") with a free Awareness, Prevention and Breast Cancer Care seminar presented by Karen Fischer of American Cancer Society's Western New York chapter. Attendees are invited to bring a brown bag lunch. Niagara will supply beverages and dessert. Following the seminar, attendees are invited to attend the 2 p.m. Niagara women's basketball game as guests of the university. The Breast Cancer Awareness theme will continue throughout the contest and include a special, inspirational halftime presentation. No reservations are necessary.
