Day to chair county's emergency planning committee

Daniel Day, director of Security & Safety at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, has been appointed chairman of the Niagara County Local Emergency Planning Committee.

Day's appointment, which is effective immediately, was approved by the Niagara County Legislature.

Local emergency planning committees, commonly called LEPCs, are charged with identifying and cataloging potential hazards and writing emergency response plans that identify resources available to mitigate those hazards.

Membership in the Niagara County LEPC includes local officials, emergency responders, environmental, hospital, and transportation personnel; and owners and operators of facilities subject to the federal and state emergency planning requirements.

A Grand Island resident, day is a graduate of the former LaSalle High School and will receive a bachelor's degree in Legal Studies this spring from the state University at Buffalo.  He will begin studies in August at the University at Buffalo Law School.

He has worked in the security field since 1989 and has been in his current position at Memorial since 1997.
