Schoellkopf Health Center, the 120-bed skilled nursing facility operated by Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, is undergoing a $700,000 renovation that includes the addition of a dedicated unit for short-term rehabilitative care. The conversion of 12 rooms on the first floor into a standalone, short-term rehab unit provides a more desirable environment for patients who come to Schoellkopf for brief convalescent stays. Short-term rehabilitation is often prescribed for stroke patients as well as people recovering from such orthopedic procedures as knee or hip replacements. Schoellkopf's new unit also positions Memorial as a better choice for physicians who perform orthopedic surgery. The medical center and the skilled nursing facility are located in attached buildings on the same campus. "We think we can be a very integral part of providing a true continuum of care under one roof," said Administrator Thomas LoStracco, who noted the new unit features all private rooms. Patients incur no extra charges for television or telephone service. To learn more or arrange for a tour, call the Schoellkopf Health Center at (716) 278-4578. |
